The Elite Women's race gets underway at World Cup Round 1 in Gran Canaria.

Elite marathoners will take to the start line for the final UCI Marthon World Cup for 2007 on Sunday, July 15. Racers will cover 100km through Oisans. The race starts in Les 2 Alpes and finishes in in Bourg d'Oisans. Along the way it visits Alpe d'Huez and other villages and resorts in Oisans. The route is technical and fast, even in the rain. The course climbs 2900m and descends 3800m

Going into the final round, favorite Finn Pia Sundstedt (Gewiss Bianchi) leads with 450 points. Behind her Swisswoman Esther Suss chases only 50 points back. Blaza Klemencic (Pintatim Full-Dynamix) of Slovenia sits a bit further back, with 260 points.

The men's battle is also a close one. Italian Massimo De Bertolis (Full-Dynamix-R.S.M.) leads Thomas Dietsch (Gewiss Bianchi) by 30 points; De Bertolis had 390 points. Marzio Deho brings up third, with 300.

The event awards points both for the MTB World Cup and the FFC 2007 French Cup.
