MTB index page for all MTB content National Mountain Bike Series 7 (NMBS-AMBC) - 1Snowmass, Colorado, USA, August 10-12, 2007Main Page Results Overall standings Previous Stage Next Stage Race 15 - August 12: Pro Women Short Track,Luna gals dominate another short trackBy Sue George Georgia Gould (Luna) couldn't have lost a race to a better person. She's already won plenty this season, and was pleased to see her team-mate Czech Katerina Nash stand atop the short track podium, both for the day and for the series. Another Luna rider, Shonny Vanlandingham set the pace from the start. She went all out from the gun and pulled the field to pieces as many could not stay with her. She would eventually drop back to fourth place. After Vanlandingham had had her turn, Gould moved to the front. "I usually like to set the pace pretty high, and that way you whittle down the group so it's safer when there's fewer people and keeping the pace hard stretches it out. "I led for next few laps and Katarina was right behind me," said Gould. For awhile, it looked like Gould might win; she had 30 feet (10 meters) for a gap over Nash with one lap to go. Throughout the race, it seemed like Gould was riding the steeper hill better, and Nash was riding the more gradual climb better. "I gapped her on the last lap on the steep climb and then right near the top, she came by me standing up out of the saddle with a huge attack," said Gould of Nash. "There wasn't much room to pass after that. She made her move perfectly." Nash was the first rider into the final 180 degree turn, and she held her lead to the line, winning by one second over Gould. Heather Irminger (Subaru / Gary Fisher) finished third and team-mate Willow Koerber was fifth. Irminger had a great race, riding one of her best short tracks. In the last three laps, she kept closing on Gould and Nash, and it looked like she might catch them with a 50-75 foot gap with one lap to go. "Heather was right there the whole time," said Gould admiring Irminger's ride. Nash's continued outstanding short track form allowed her to edge out Gould for the overall win. Van Landingham was third in the series, followed by Koerber and Irminger. ""It was good to see her win the series," said Gould. "She definitely deserved it."
