MTB index page for all MTB content NORBA series #5 - NESnowmass, Colorado, USA, July 21-24, 2005Main Page Results Overall standings Previous Race Next Race Race 3 - July 23: Cross-countryKabush back on topGeoff Kabush (Team Maxxis) won the NORBA Cross Country race in Aspen, Colorado on Saturday, finishing just five minutes before torrential downpours soaked the trail, caused flash flooding and damaged the Four-Cross course so badly that Four-Cross event had to be cancelled. "I was lucky with the weather," Kabush said after the race. "I just made it into the finish before the crazy thundershower. We were sitting in anti-doping watching waterfalls pour off roofs all over the village." As for the race, Kabush says he's adapted to the mid-season altitude race courses (Snowmass sits above 8,000 feet. The 7.4-mile course climbed 1,400 feet then descended back to the village) and knew to "pace myself." He waited for early attacks to come and go and sat at the back of the lead group. The group began to shrink after Kashi Luechs (Dunedin Bianchi Agos) suffered a flat and Adam Craig (Giant) fell off the pace. "I sat on Liam with (Ryan) Trebon (Kona/Les-Gets)," Kabush said. "We figured it would come down to the last climb. I could see Kashi coming back on the switchbacks below us and I still felt like I had some juice in the legs so I went as hard as I could and I was able to get over the top first." Coming into Snowmass, Kabush was tied with Horgan-Kobelski in NORBA Cross-Country Series points and the win, Kabush's second NORBA cross-country victory of the season, puts him back on top of the series. In the women's race, Shonny Vanlandingham (Luna Chix) won her third NORBA cross-country race in a row.
