2005 NZ Community Trust Mountain Bike National SeriesCross Country #4 - Tokoroa - February 5, 2005The fourth round of the XC Community Trust National Series was held at the brand new Cougar Mountain Bike Park, close to the township of Tokoroa. Due to logging at Big Rock, the Tokoroa MTB Club have recently developed this fantastic facility, officially opened by the Mayor on Saturday. A hot and humid day, combined with a slow twisty course tested riders, as the Men's Pro-Elite race was once again won by Michael Northcott (Mangakino), only having to start the Auckland round in order to clinch the title. Stuart Houltham of Taupo, the current XC Series winner is improving in form after coming second, just under four minutes behind Northcott. Tim Wilding, also of Taupo, has had a sterling performance this race season, a minute behind Houltham giving him third position. Wilding finished second at the Dunedin round, his highest position achieved in the National Series. In the Women's Pro-Elite field the current leader of the series, Rosara Joseph (Christchurch), didn't race this round, leaving it to our highest ranked rider Robyn Wong (Wellington) and new comer to this level, Annika Smail (Auckland) to battle it out. Wong prevailed by one and a half minutes and our current NZ Champ, Sonia Foote of Rotorua came in third. In Expert Junior Men, Clinton Avery of Rotorua, the 2004 National Series titleholder, is having a superb race season so far, having won all four rounds, effectively giving him the 2005 Series title as long as he competes at the finals. A welcome suprise on-the-day entry was received by Myra Moller, one of our top junior riders based overseas for the last few years. Moller, without much training entered in the Expert Senior Women and cleaned up, finishing 11 and a half minutes ahead of her next rival, Nicole Swain of Wellington.
