MTB index page for all MTB content MTB World Cup DH-4X #7 - BPila, Italy, August 20-21, 2005Main Page Results World Cup standings Next Race Race 1 - August 20: 4 CrossBad weather, but nobody stops ProkopGreat race by American Jill KintnerThe weather was awful tonight at Pila (Italy), for the 4-Cross World Cup race, that took place in violent rainfalls, cold temperatures and even fog. In spite of the weather, many people were there to watch an amazing show. The absolute protagonist was Czech Michal Prokop, who dominated all the heats, semi-final and the final. Last year's World Cup winner was so excited he even left behind American Brian Lopes, the World Cup leader. The Czech started very fast and never left the lead. Lopes tried until the very end to get his bike ahead, but the rhythm was very fast and the risk of falling because of the mud was too high. Obviously, Lopes looked ahead to the World Cup that still belongs to him. The winning trio was completed by Cedric Garcia. The World Cup situation is still unchanged and reflected in the results at Pila, although the first two are inverted: Lopes still holds the lead (211 p), followed by Prokop (187) and Gracia (151). The women's race was won by Jill Kintner, who won the semi-finals and the final. This means for the American, who dominated the Cup's last races, that she could actually get to the highest step at the end of the season. Second place went to Czech Jana Horakova, thus taking precious points away from the Cup leader, Dutchwoman Anneke Beerten, who got third place. Tomorrow, hopefully under a better sky, the Downhill World Cup will be taking place.
