On the Hinze Dam circuit, Skroblin placed equal first with his protégé Gittins from Toowoomba in a time of 1:29.43. Gittins just 16 years old led for 2 laps before being passed by his coach, Skroblin then matching him on the line. Suffering flu over the last week Skroblin still sang the praises of Gittins, "Ryan takes racing more seriously than me." Over 150 riders from the Sunshine Coast to Byron Bay descended on the Gold Coast to ride the second round of Queensland's biggest series. Multisport and veteran athlete, Brett Stevens from the Gold Coast was third before a flat halfway through the race saw him out of contention. Another veteran rider, Jack Weitenberg also from the Gold Coast rode confidently into third place even though he was racing much younger riders. University of Brisbane rider, Regan Jefcoate found himself in fourth place just in front of Andrew Wegener. In Expert A Women, Erica Oldfield from Ipswich maintained her series lead by beating Lee Shultz and Gold Coast's Sharon Heap finished in third. Oldfield has just received a scholarship with the Queensland Academy of Sport and will head to the World Championships in France in September. In Under 19 Brisbane's James Maltman, 16 years old from Southside RATS Club, stayed with the leaders of expert men and won comfortably from Gold Coast's David Whitney. Maltman aims to win all three mountain bike disciplines (XC, DH and 4X) at the National Titles later in the year. Gold Coast juniors proved too strong and took out the top two places in Under 17 men with Daniel Hallam winning over training partner Zac MacAnally. Hallam will move into first place in the series as Maltman rides up an age group. Luke Scudamore and Sean Dalton placed second and third, respectively in the Under 15 division. In Under 13, Ryan Mac Anally beat Christopher Hendley by 2 minutes. The next round of cross country is at Gap Creek Reserve on 20 June followed by round two of the downhill at Blackstone, Ipswich on 27 June.
