The Terrigal Criterium,
staged in the heart of the CBD of Terrigal and supported by Gosford City
Council, is one of the most picturesque locations in Australia and has
been regarded as the most exciting location for the Cycle Classic.
The race attracts
a large crowd of in excess of 6,000 spectators who cheer the cyclists
for the duration of the race and support the event with some worthy sprint
primes. The cyclists respond with a fast and exciting race and the finish
straight and wide open corners makes the criterium circuit an ideal spectacle.
The crowd also attends
the various restaurants located along the race route and gain wonderful
vantage spots to enjoy the non stop action.
The crowd has certainly
been privy to some great action over the years - who will forget Max Van
Heeswyk's great win with the wonderful team work by Motorola in 1995 while
the Giant Australian team did likewise for Jay Sweet in 1997.
Graeme Brown in 1998
defied the odds to flash past Koerts and Sweet in the final 50 metres
to win by a clear length while Franky Van Haesebroucke was far too good
in last year's race.
With a twilight race,
an hour later in 2000 and with the trishaw grand prix staged just prior
to the race start, it is expected that our biggest crowd ever will witness
the action at Terrigal.
