The Healthpact Canberra
Criterium will be staged once again on London Circuit at Civic and is
sure to attract a large and enthusiastic crowd.
The circuit is unrelenting
for the cyclists with its "U" turns at either end and the double set of
"s" bends back to back on the back straight. It may be difficult for the
riders and very hard on the legs at the end of an arduous tour but it
is fantastic on television, quite exceptional for spectators and can determine
the overall race.
The cyclists also
strive to win the final stage and it has always been a challenging event
and Casino Canberra will be hoping for a home town victory.
Canberra has provided
a great conclusion to the race finish with Andrew Logan claiming third
place in 1986 and received his first yellow jersey on the podium at the
finish whilst Jan Ullrich wrapped up his Commonwealth Bank Cycle Classic
in 1993 on the final stage while in 1996 John Tanner and Chris Lillywhite
dead heated for first overall when Lillywhite finished in third place
in the final criterium stage.
Supporting the day
will be the final stage of the Singapore Trishaw Grand Prix, junior cycling,
the now famous Street heats for novices and several major criterium races.
The final day is
supported extensively by Canberra Tourism and Events, the ACT Government
and Healthpact and should be a fitting climax to the final Commonwealth
Bank Cycle Classic.
