Stage 10, Wollongong to Nowra, 106 km

Thursday, November 9, 2000, 10:30 - 13:24

Results

After a late finish the night before the cyclists will get under way from the Wollongong Mall at 10.30am on a 106 km trek to Nowra.

It is a tough and unrelenting stage with some of the tough climbs of the tour. The fast and undulating early part of the stage is tough in its own right before the cyclists encounter Jamberoo Pass which climbs steeply before levelling out to the Illawarra Highway.

There is little let off as the riders race through to Robertson and then to Fitzroy Falls before descending to Kangaroo Valley and the final climb up Camberwarra Mountains. The final 12 kilometres is fast into Nowra with the cyclists descending virtually most of the way.

Small groups form along the way and the racing is very enthralling.

Jono Hall has split the field on occasions but the past few years there have been small leading groups forming at the head of the race. The race this year will finish adjacent to Harry Sawkins Park.
