Stage 5, Nelson Bay Criterium, 30 kms:Monday, October 25, 1999 |
This could be an excellent opportunity for some of the riders down on the General Classification to grab some glory before the difficult stages that confront the riders over the remaining days.
The circuit is a hot dog style, with a few bends and twists and is positioned right next to Port Stephens and the Marina-a wonderful backdrop for the outstanding worldwide television exposure. Last year the sprinters were at the fore and the stage was taken out by Dutchman Jan Hordijk, with countryman Jans Koerts placing second ahead of Graeme Brown. However, it was a tough day for the competitors with some key riders losing time. From the archives - Action from 1995 |
