Stage 10, Coogee Criterium, 36 kms:Thursday, October 28, 1999 |
Coogee under lights creates an electric atmosphere for the cyclists and spectators with the cyclists putting on a superb display of circuit racing. The hot dog circuit, with it's natural amphitheatre on one side and one of Sydney's sensational beaches on the other, provides the ideal setting and attracts a large crowd who have the opportunity of viewing the spectacular racing. The furious pace is maintained for the full duration with cyclists attempting to gain a winning break. Last year it was left to the Commonwealth Games champion, Jay Sweet to claim victory with a last minute dash to the line. It was an important victory for Jay, notching his first win of the 1998 tour and most importantly taking the record number of all time stage wins to nine, one clear of Max Van Heeswijk. This race is one that Sydney-siders should not miss, which is why Randwick Council, in conjunction with the Chamber of Commerce, is making sure that it will be one great event in 1999.
