Wilson and Ferguson come in from the cold

Fifty-seven men and three women braved the cold and wet conditions for the combined NJ/DE State Cyclo-Cross Championships, hosted by Team Beacon. The rain stayed away until the Men's A race of which Brooke from Team Somerset joined as she was the ONLY Elite woman rider there. She obviously won, got nice and dirty and took away a nice little prize for her efforts.

The course highlights included the "blender" which was up and down switchbacks through some nice off cambers in a tight rooty sloped section of leaf covered dirt, sand and some road with one run up. Confused? So were some riders the first time through it. The "lake" was after a road crossing and at the bottom of the slope between the trees. The puddle grew with the rain we'd had to a 10 feet wide, 20 feet long, 2 feet deep lake and it was COLD!

Despite the conditions, racing was tight amongst the top riders in each category. In the Men's Elite, Greg Ferguson pulled out a win for NJ (with Leach and Reynolds coming in just behind) after these three Wissahickon riders lead the race out from lap one. The Men's B race was also very tight, ending in a sprint win for David Greenblatt over Tom Mains who have both been showing great from in the Mid-Atlantic series this year. The race was open to all states and NJ and DE were separated for the State Awards.
