Cyclo-Cross World Cup #5 - CDMWetzikon, Switzerland, December 5, 2004Results Cyclo-cross World Cup page Nys on topSven Nys (Rabobank) has won round #5 of this season's Cyclo-cross World Cup, 50 metres in front of his teammate Groenendaal and chasing Dlask and Vervecken. World Champion Bart Wellens finished 10th with an injured thumb, and Sven Vanthourenhout was placed last of his group for hindering Mlynar in the sprint. How it unfoldedAfter a first front group of seven broke away from the bunch after the start, but was joined by ten other riders during the second lap. Sven Nys then took over commands and increased the pace until a smaller group of six riders emerged, including himself, Wellens, Groenendaal, Mourey, Dlask and Franzoi. It looked like the kind of breakaway that could take it to the finish, but the chasers moved up on them and everything got back together - except for Aubusher, who had some trouble with his chain. With one lap to go, Nys attacked again and only Groenendaal, Dlask and Vervecken could follow. But not for long, as the Belgian leader of the World Cup ranking made an impressive solo to the finish. It was Nys' 25th World Cup race win.
