Results

Swanson and Selander split while Sone does the double

The return of the Ham Lake 'cross race and the debut of racing at the National Sports Center Velodrome 'cross were on the docket for this past weekend in Minnesota. Both races had large participation with 130 racers at Ham Lake and 175 taking to the line at the Velodrome.

Doug Swanson (Grandstay) took the first stage of the weekend with a killer performance on the wooded sections of Ham Lake and put in a punishing attack on Adam Bergman (Grand Performance) on the penultimate lap to take the victory by about 30 seconds over Bergman with Aric Hareland (Hollywood) rounding out the podium.

With Bjorn Selander (Ridley), who took Saturday off, taking to the line on Sunday all of the big names in the Upper Midwest were at the debut of racing at the National Sports Center. The racing was hot from the gun with the big four of Swanson, Selander, Hareland and Bergman taking a hefty lead into the Velodrome on the first lap. Over the next few laps Selander began to pull away on the muddy sections of the course and maintained a mistake-free race while Swanson, Hareland and Bergman had a few crashes and rolled tubulars throughout. Eventually Hareland beat Bergman to finish off the podium, while Selander reigned supreme.

Linda Sone (Ridley) won both races on the weekend with sizeable gaps over the rest of the women's field. Sone has now taken a lead in the Minnesota Cyclo-cross Rider of the Year standings over Linda Cooper with just one race remaining on the calendar. The gap is very close and next weekends race in Milaca will decide the victor of the season long competition.
