US National Champion Katie Compton stormed to another victory today in Asper-Gavere, with the American claiming a convincing win over French World Champion Maryline Salvetat.

Compton took the lead from the gun and soon opened up a gap early on during the first descent of the challenging Asper-Gavere course. By the end of the first lap Compton had more than 30 seconds gap to the hard chasing trio of Salvetat, Reza Hormes-Ravenstein and Birgit Hollman. The slippery conditions didn't faze Compton as she cruised to finish with a 2.46 minute lead over second placed Salvetat. Taking the last podium spot was the Netherlands' Reza Hormes-Ravenstein.

"[The course was] really slippery, there's not a lot of traction on the downhill and the tires load up with mud easily," said Compton.

Compton's ride impressed the Belgian National coach, Rudi De Bie, who took time out to congratulate her on the victory.

With the next World Cup less than a week away, Compton will be odds-on favourite on the difficult sandy conditions of Koksijde. Despite her recent wins Compton will undoubtedly face another strong challenge from Daphny van den Brand, who was absent from today's race in Asper-Gavere.

The World Cup in Koksijde will be Compton's last race in Europe this year before heading home to Colorado, United States of America. Following a brief recovery in Colorado Springs, Compton plans to race the final leg of the USGP series in Portland, the scene of her first US National Cyclo-cross Championship title in 2004, and then onto Kansas City for the US National Cyclo-cross Championship where she will defend her National Championship jersey for the fourth time.
