Local wins Cyclocross season opener

Davisburg, MI, September 24, 2006

Local Jonathan Baker took a double victory during two days of racing at the Kinetic Systems Cyclocross round in Davisburg. It was a near-perfect opening to the season for the Primus Mootry/Hashman Wealth Management Team with Baker's teammate Zach Grabowski taking victory in the U23 category in Saturday's event before being struck down by mechanical gremlins in Sunday's race. The event was the opening round of the 2006 US Grand Prix of Cyclocross.

"I really wanted to open my season strong so that I can get an automatic selection to the world's team rather than depend on a coach's selection like 2005," explained Baker. "This way I can make solid plans and prepare rather than wait until the moment to learn I'm selected."

The valuable points earned in the UCI ranked season opener will be vital for the riders as the starting order for the series' next round in October at Gloucester Mass is decided on points.
