Under the eyes of Frank Schleck, a national hero after his brilliant season on the road, and his brother Andy, the international cyclo-cross of ACC Contern took place on Sunday, October 29,2006 on a dry and fast course.

A group of four riders dominated the race after lap 3, when David Willemsens managed to bridge up to the Czech riders Jan Chrobak, Emile Hekele and Ondrej Lukes, who had the fastest start.

The four remained together until the penultimate lap, when Willemsens made a decisive attack. Hekele and Lukes were dropped, but Chrobak remained close behind the Belgian elite without contract champion.

The Czech rider managed to come back into Willemsens wheel on the very last run-up, but the Belgian held him down in the final sprint to take his first victory in the cyclo-cross of Contern, where he had already taken several top placings in previous years.
