Georgia Cyclo-cross series #7 - December 10, 2006

Santa makes an appearance for Georgia 'cross finale

by Adam Jones

The Georgia Cross Series wrapped up the season with another strong turnout as racers came for one last go round in the dirt and some final prep for Nationals. In the Men’s A race it was Jed Schneider (Alan Factory) taking the win with Tim Barrett (Myogenesis) a close second. Schneider and Barrett got away early and worked together to stay away from a strong chase group including series leader Michael Cummings (Cycleyouth) and former series leader Nathan Race (Reality Bikes). In the end it was Schneider besting Barrett by about two seconds.

The Women’s A race was another hard fought battle between the Travel Girl duo of Kim Foland and Kim Sawyer with Sawyer taking the win but Foland hanging on for the series victory. Sawyer and Foland went clear of the main field on the second lap and worked together for a good part of the race before fighting out the win. Sawyer was the first too attack and get away but Foland fought back to Sawyers wheel until Sawyer made the decisive move with little more than a lap to go. In all the Georgia Series saw record turnouts and some great racing by all who came to play in the dirt.
