Sacramento Cyclocross Series

Folsom, CA, November 12, 2005

Jason Moeschler and Linda Elgart were the Men's and Women's A Race points winners in the 9-race Sacramento Cyclocross Series concluded November 12th at Negro Bar in Folsom, Ca, on a course that featured a stair run, sand, logs, and fast riding on dirt and pavement. Moeschler (Giant/Tour of Nevada City) finished with 280 points over Chris McGovern (Alan), who won the first 3 races early in the season and then departed to do big-time UCI events. Moeschler won the next 3 races and placed 4th, 3rd, and 2nd to garner the most points. Keith Newsome (Monticello) was 3rd overall and first in the Master 35 A's, with 113 points and 7 starts. Dan Sovereign and Joe Staron (both East Sac Bike and Board) were 2nd and 3rd in the Masters 35 A's.

Linda Elgart (Webcor) narrowly defeated Joan Gregg (Cycling-Training) 261 to 255 points by showing up for every single race. Gregg had the edge in placings, but missed one race and dnf'ed in one, allowing Elgart to take the overall. It came down to the final race, where Gregg was 3rd and Elgart 4th. The points differentials weren't great enough for Gregg to take the lead. Rhonda Blankenheim (Cycling-Training) won the B women ahead of teammate Lizzy Allbut. Both will be racing A's next year.

In the under 40 B wave, East Sac Bike and Board teammates Eric Nelson and Jim Macdonald battled all year, with Nelson coming out ahead 299 points to 288. Macdonald won the last race with double points, but it wasn't quite enough to overtake his teammate, who was the first in the 19-29 group. These two have also committed to being A racers in 2006. Third overall and first in the 30-39's was Chris Coffey (Rock Lobster) with 164 points. Blake Anton (Davis Bike Club) won both the Junior B's and the Junior A's, as he participated in both races. The under 16 juniors was taken by Jeremy Ferguson, aged 15 (Sharp Bicycle).

The over 40 B's were dominated by racing age 60 John Elgart, who won 6 races. Ron Callison (Valley Spokesmen) beat Elgart in two early races, but never showed up again. Second in the over 40 B wave, and first in the 40-49 group was Shane Huntoon of Livermore Cyclery, a bmx racer who showed he had more than just jumping skills in his first season of cross. Tom Snyder was the winner of the 50-59 group.

Ron Rouse (Rio Strada) took the C series, and the women C's were won by Kristie Hamilton (Cycling-Training). Junior C's (the young kids), was won by Brandon Balducci, age 12.

The Sacramento CX Series hit new attendance levels this year with 307 individuals participating. Primary sponsors for the series were Voler Team Apparel for leaders jerseys, and Clif Bar. Additional sponsorship was provided by Specialized, Blackburn, Defeet and Sacramento area bike shops.
