McNellis and Brown double up

Carmen McNellis (Aaron's) road to a second win in two days and walked away from the first-ever Dolores Cyclocross Race with the marquee prize, a Giant TCRw frameset donated by the Dolores based US Women's Cycling Development Program.

The only time McNellis trailed in the race was off the start, but by the end of the start/finish straightaway she was at the front and led throughout. Running the course in reverse from Saturday's direction gave McNellis and the other riders a tailwind on the river levee portion of the course. McNellis took advantage with a time trial effort on the gravel straight and poured time into second place finisher Kristin Danielson (Velo Bella).

Travis Brown (Trek) had to answer an attack from Grant Berry (Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory) on the third lap. Berry accelerated across the start/finish line and had a gap of fifteen seconds on a chase group of Brown, Joey Thompson (Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory), and John Stephens (Fort Lewis College). Brown was the only rider able to erase the gap. The veteran rider stayed calm while taking three laps to catch Berry. The duo road together for three more laps, but when the official threw up the three laps to go sign, Berry went to work and finished the race with more than a minute on the closest competition.
