The series continues to see an explosion of interest in 'cross racing, with an increase of over 55 riders from last year's field. Sunday's race saw a tightly fought Men's A race with teammates Andy Johnston and Michael Cummings (KHS/Cycleyouth). The two teamed up on series leader Nathan Race (Reality Bikes) to get Cummings his second win of the year. The race was held on a brutally tough course laid out by the Gwinnett Touring Club. The first half was twisty and fast and the back half was torturous as the riders had a long run across a beach, about 100 yards of a climb, a set of barriers at the base of the dirt climb, and the gradual road uphill to the finish line. The Women's A race was also a great show as Samantha Williams (Alan Factory Team) returned after having missed a weekend to race the UCI race in Maryland. Samantha showed that she is on form and a force to be reckoned with as she narrowed the gap on series leader Kim Foland (Travel Girl). Photography |
