Minnesota Cyclocross Rider of Year Series #1St Cloud, MN, September 25, 2005The Minnesota Cyclocross Rider of the year series got underway in St. Cloud on September 25th with good fall cross conditions. Riders were greeted with moderate temperatures and intermittent to steady rain throughout the day. The event always draws both a good crowd and a large number of racers with 112 entrants. Among the attendees of this year's race were pro riders Doug Swanson of Trek/VW, Jed Schneider (Athens, GA) of the Alan Factory Team, Mike Taylors of McGuire, Dan Swanson of Hollywood Cycles and for the women Kyia Malenkovich of Headmethod.com. The Women's open race was taken convincingly by Kyia Malenkovich racing on her hometown course in front of a very enthusiastic but wet crowd. Cathy Ynstead of Flat City came in second, with Margot Herman of Vello Bella in third. Herman spent most of the race in second about a minute behind Malenkovich but faltered on the last lap and was passed by Ynstead. The Men's A race was much closer and came down to a late attack. Doug Swanson took the early lead in the race but was reeled in by a very on form Jed Schneider on lap three. The two then rode together for two laps until Jed made a slight bobble on the high speed barrier section where Doug was able to get away and take the win by about 10 seconds. Mike Taylor rode in third about 10 seconds back throughout much of the race but faltered towards the end when Eric Hareland of Salsa passed him to take third. Local results 2004 |
