Daniele Pontoni shows So. Cal. how to go Scary Fast

Italian champion Danielle Pontoni had a change in travel plans and was a suprise guest and winner of the Scary Fast cyclocross in Thousand Oaks Ca. Pontoni was scheduled to travel to Utah but chose not to travel and opted for a closer race. The third race in the Southern California Cyclocross Cup was held at the Cal Lutheran University course and featured a bit of mud due to overnight showers on what would have been an otherwise fast course. The mens A race saw the Italian sit comfortably in a group comprised of Brent Prenzlow, Mark Noble, Alan Coates and Erik Bergen all of Southern California. At less than midway, Pontoni put in a sharp acceleration and left the group behind for good. Prenzlow rode a very strong race to finish 2nd. with Noble 3rd. and Coates 4th.
The favorite spot of the day was the mud bog that formed in a shallow creek. Many a rider took a bath in the foot deep water while trying to negotiate the mud and slippery slopes. Pontoni managed to ride this section every time except once, but never lost pace.
