Superprestige #7 - Harnes - C1Harnes, France, February 9, 20032002 Results Results Past winners Dominant Nijs wraps up Superprestige seriesWith just one round of the Superprestige series remaining and with a 60 point lead, Belgian champion Sven Nijs will walk away with his fourth Superprestige title in two weeks time in Vorselaar. And if he wins that round too, he will equal the record of Superprestige king Roland Liboton, who won 21 Superprestige races in his career. After winning five of the seven rounds this season, Nijs currently has 20 SP wins in total, and is motivated to make the most of the end of the season following his disappointing fifth place at the World's in Monopoli. "That's an improbably large amount of wins in a season," said Nijs. "I fear that it will be difficult to equal Liboton in Vorselaar." The World's are still fresh in his mind though, and Nijs doesn't know what happened in Monopoli. "One thing is for sure: it is a bitter pill to swallow," said Nijs. "To be such a favourite and to have such a disappointing performance, that was a kick in the ribs." Today in Harnes there were no problems for Nijs, as halfway through the race he rode away from the leading group containing Mario De Clercq (Palmans-Collstrop), Bart Wellens (Spaar Select), Peter Van Santvliet (Spaar Select), Tom Vannoppen (Palmans-Collstrop) and Erwin Vervecken (Spaar Select). Only Van Santvliet was able to come back at Nijs, obviously hungry for a good result to try and secure a contract for next season. Van Santvliet finished 23 seconds behind Nijs, with his teammate and newly crowned World Champ Bart Wellens rounding out the top three. Nijs now has 193 points ahead of Wellens on 133, De Clercq on 120 followed by Vervecken (113) and Van Santvliet (112). The battle is now for second place, or most likely third unless Wellens has a bad day in the final round.
