Australian team report

We're at another race in France called Poitou-Charentes, a 4 day stage race in West France. All the good French teams are here as well as teams from Germany, Italy, Poland and Portugal.

The 1st stage was 168 km over fairly flat terain on windy open roads. Because of the short stage the race was aggressive throughout with Jens Voigt featuring in one major break. The team worked well to bring back another dangerous group. 2 riders escaped near the finish to take the stage with 15 seconds over the main group.

Stage 2, St Jean Angely - Montbron 196 km:

Stage 2 was over a course that started flat and finished over undulating terrain. The race started slow and finished flat out.

Australian Team Report

Stage 3 was over another undulating course in wet and windy weather. Summer has deserted us in Europe. There were many break aways featuring Matt White, Miloslav Kejval and Jens Voigt. Jens made it into the descisive break of 5 and was 4th for the 2nd day running. He has given himself a real shot at a top GC position with the time trial and a 104 km road stage tomorrow to finish the tour. Peter Rogers abandoned today with a chest cold and Brett Dennis abandoned after losing time and getting off the course.

Final Australian Team Report

Yesterday was a split stage to finish the tour. In the morning was a relatively flat, non technical time trial over 26 km. The day was again wet and windy. In the afternoon was a 104 km road stage around Poitiers.

The field was reshuffeled in the time trial with unknown Portugese rider, Joaquim Anrade blasting his way from nowhere to the lead and denying German time trial specialist, Uwe Peschel, his 3rd time trial win on the run. We ended up in much the same position with Jens passing guys and having other guys pass him.

Next race for the Australian Team is the Tour de l'Avenir beginning in Brest, France on the 3rd of September.
