Past Winners Report: Late attack catches out bunch The brutal climbs and tough conditions of this year's Vuelta a Espana were devastating for some riders, but great preparation for others. One of those is Spanish rider Santiago Blanco (Vitalicio Seguros), who attacked in the last kilometer of the finishing climb of the 33rd Subida al Naranco and won by eight seconds to ONCE-Deutsche Bank's Martin Perdiguero. "The past week has made me recover well from the Vuelta. We that come from the Vuelta must show our strength to get some respect from the others, and I knew that I couldn't match Perdiguero in a sprint so I had to attack", Blanco said after the race.
